What is bookkeeping and why does my business need it?
Bookkeeping is the recording and organization of every financial movement in your company: income, expenses, bank reconciliation, and reports. With up-to-date numbers you know exactly where the money goes, avoid losses, and make decisions based on real data.
What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
A bookkeeper keeps your financial records organized and current day to day; an accountant uses those records for tax obligations such as filing returns. MyBookTech handles your bookkeeping and delivers clean, organized numbers to your accountant.
Are you accountants? Do I need an accountant for my US business?
We are not CPAs and we do not prepare tax returns. MyBookTech does bookkeeping: we keep your company's financial records organized, reconciled, and current all year long. Your accountant is the one who signs the tax return. The two roles add up rather than compete: with the books current, your accountant receives everything ready, works faster, and you stop paying for hours spent sorting loose statements and receipts.
Do you form an LLC or get an EIN for me?
No. Forming an LLC or corporation and requesting an EIN from the IRS are handled by you, by an accountant, or by an attorney. MyBookTech's work starts right after: once the company exists and the bank account is open, we set up the chart of accounts, separate personal money from company money, and get the bookkeeping running from month one. That is the most common mistake among new US business owners, mixing the two accounts and only finding the mess at tax season.
Do you file my taxes?
We do not prepare tax returns. We prepare and organize everything your accountant needs in order to file: categorized income and expenses, closed bank reconciliation, profit by job, and the list of payments made to contractors during the year, which is the basis for issuing 1099s. With that package ready, tax season stops being a scramble and you avoid overpaying because of expenses you forgot to record.
